WHO I AM
Musician, producer, sound designer, educator
Barry Frame is a sound designer, producer, musician and lecturer from Central Scotland. Everything he teaches started as a question he asked himself with a guitar in his hands.
Having played guitar from an early age, Barry began recording and writing songs and performing in many bands. During that time he developed a parallel passion for recording music, building a small studio in his bedroom where he captured his own material.
After years of performing, he returned to education with an HND in Sound Production at Forth Valley College — where he discovered his love for sound design for television and film. That led to a Bachelor of Arts in Commercial Sound Production at the University of the West of Scotland, a Master of Design in Sound for the Moving Image at Glasgow School of Art, and finally a Post-Graduate Diploma in Teaching in Further Education.
His film work includes Setting Rainbow (2013), When the Tide Comes In (2014), James and the Urn (2014), The Running Man (2014), The Last Love Letter (2015), Please Come Home (2017), Anderson (2017), Urinal Cake (2018) and Crackpot (2018). He also designed the sound for Stirling's Old Town Jail and The Bastion Dungeon at the Thistle Shopping Centre.
Barry continues to work on sound projects and still performs with the band The Dirty Martinis. Future projects include All in the Mind, a binaural radio drama, and The Patter, a short comedy he wrote himself. His first book, The Why Behind the Strings, distils that whole path into a guide for players.
